For me, it’s the best food you can buy for $10 at HEB.

Homemade chicken and wild rice soup, pretzel rolls, and pumpkin pie

HEB was one of my least favorite things about living in Texas. I didn’t mind the one on blanco and 1604 though.

How is it even possible to not like HEB?

My grandmother loves that place. she gets everything from there, the best part is that HEB has stores in Monterrey and she doesn’t speak English, but she insist in pronouncing it in English so she says
“Ah-Che-Vee”
“Voy a el ahchevee”

Golden Grahams.

Am I doing this right?
Coffee aside, I had homemade chicken tortilla soup and Colombian arroz con pollo (calling it chicken and rice doesn’t do it justice).

Grilled chicken, Cheez-Its, cheesecake, and cough drops because I’m coming down with a cold.

I take it all back. You are no longer allowed in Texas again. Ever. HEB is a fucking state treasure! How do you not like HEB?! >:(

I LOVE HEB. And now you’ve got me craving a Philly roll. :)
I’ve currently got some of their Central Market prickly pear soda chilling in my fridge. Best soda ever.

I tried sushi 3 or 4 times. But it’s too expensive and it leaves me hungry. It doesn’t feel like I ate anything of substance.

I just spent a week in Texas, HEB is the only thing I wanted to bring back to Kansas.

Maybe the one in Alice left that much of a bad taste in my mouth.
Apparently I don’t want to go back to Texas either, I declined a job in Texas. Not because of Texas, but because of the job.

I vastly prefer Publix, which is what we have here in the Southeast.

There was an HEB neighborhood market next to the house we had last week. I want one by my apartment here in Wichita soooo badly. Groceries are the only thing that aren’t currently within walking distance of me, and I hate driving to go get them.

That makes sence. One thing I know about HEB is that they give lots of lee way to individual stores as to what they stock and such. So I can imagine there’s multiple bad HEBs out there.
Plus I used to have the crazy English teacher from Alice, so that doesn’t bode well for the reputation of the town.

HEB is an INCREDIBLE company. And nothing exemplifies that better than what they did during Hurricane Harvey this past summer. I encourage you to read these three stories:

The meal of champions! (And fancy Lexus owners)

When forced to choose between Lexus and actual meals, I made the only correct choice.

Alice is kind of a shitty town. And on top of that, it’s a SMALL town far from other towns. Small town HEBs tend to be smaller stores in older buildings and have less selection than stores in bigger cities. But, one thing that makes it tolerable is that you can ask any cashier for a green card. It’s a customer request card. If there’s an item that HEB stocks in another store, meaning it’s something that exists somewhere in their supply chain, they WILL bring it to your local store, even if that store doesn’t currently stock it. And chances are, you’ll get it within a week. They’ll just load it onto the next truck headed your way. The only thing is, if it’s something that not a lot of people buy they’ll eventually stop bringing it to your local store (no one likes waste), but you can always request it again.

About 1.5lbs of chicken wings. My dad makes some kick ass buffalo chicken.

German potato salad and cherry kuchen, which is sorta like a German cheesecake.

I think we’ve discussed this before but I used to live like 2 minutes south of the one at 1604/Blanco. I actually usually went to the one down at West and Blanco because that one on 1604 is so dang huge it took me forever just to get in and out of it.

I’ve had good luck with the small town ones. The HEB in Uvalde is the shit. Friendlier staff that really help out. Also the one in Boerne seems to be better organized than the ones nearby in SA but I’m juuuust far enough away that I never stop in unless I’m in Boerne for something else already.

I really wish they would go statewide. I always get confused when I’m in Fort Worth and cant find an H-E-B. I think they stop just south of the metroplex.

I’ve never been able to bring myself to get the sushi at HEB. Also dafuq is “sushi sauce”?!
![]() 01/01/2018 at 23:18 |

The packet in there was just soy sauce. There was already some on the sushi so I didn’t use it, but I have no idea what the other sauces are.

Deep fried snapper! Down in Mexico on vacation so the whole plate cost about 5 bucks. And yes, it was very delicious

I’ve heard only good things about how they treat their workers as well. Still doesn’t mean I liked shopping there.

I used to live 5 minutes from the one on West ave. I really didn’t like there, so I went to the one on blanco/1604.
